Approval of previous minutes

The minutes of 15th July were approved by the group

Matters arising from previous minutes

  • Advanced care planning information session –  see later item
  • PPG policy – there were still a few committee members needing to  acknowledge the new policy. Those outstanding to read and acknowledge asap
  • PPG/PCN contacts – the only other active PPG in the area was Kennedy Way and Jean has renewed contact with their chair person
  • AGE UK liaison – there is now a named contact available and a recent presence and information display in the surgery had proved useful for patients.
  • Care navigation feedback – the new system continues to receive positive feedback and the meeting praised the reception team for their ongoing help to those patients unable to complete the forms on line

AGM

  • As chairperson, Jean read her report for the year which was acknowledged by those present. Thanks went to her for fulfilling the roles of  both chair and secretary , as well as Tess and Rob who had acted as joint vice-chairs.
  • Election of officers – Jean was nominated and unanimously elected as chair and secretary for a further year. Tess and Rob were also nominated and elected as joint vice-chairs.

PPG issues

  • Advance Care planning presentation –  it has been decided that the presentation will take place on Monday 21st October (7pm) in lieu of the scheduled  PPG committee meeting. Dr Smith will be presenting the key topic and both Karen Cheriton ( Care co-ordinator) and AGE UK would also be present. The session will be open to Courtside patients only , rather than other surgeries within the PCN , due to limited space and anticipated interest. A poster will be displayed within the next few weeks to advertise the session and places will be bookable at reception. Details will also be added to the surgery Facebook page. The information session will also be brought to the attention of patients attending the October flu/covid clinics.
  • RSV ( respiratory syncytial virus) vaccination – the appointments for the new vaccine have been booked for the target groups and will be completed during the next few weeks.

Courtside Issues

  • Flu/Covid clinic plan – the autumn clinics will be held on Saturday 5th, Thursday 10th and Tuesday 15th October. These will be busy sessions and PPG support has already been arranged, as in previous years.
  • Staffing update – A new p/t GP, Lorraine Courcier, will be starting in mid- September, working Thursday pm and Friday am. Dr Sam Tindall who has been working in the practice for a while , starts permanently in October. There will be a new member of the admin team starting shortly and recruitment is underway for a new secretary. A new receptionist, Rebecca, has just started. A new HCA will be starting soon.

AOB

  • Shingles vaccine – these are available for specific groups and eligibility can be confirmed by ringing reception or filling in an admin enquiry form on-line.
  • Delay in hospital outcome letters appearing on patient records - the meeting was advised that work on these was a bit behind but the team are steadily working through them.
  • Long Covid – this was an acknowledged condition with specific clinics available in the area. A suggestion was made that the subject might be a good topic for a future patient information/ drop-in  session.

Date of Next Meeting

  • Presentation on Advanced Care planning - Monday 21st October, 7pm
  • Committee meeting - Monday 16th December 7pm
